A three-day Validation Workshop on the Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme on Organisational Effectiveness and Transformation was successfully held in Dakar, Senegal, from 1 to 3 June 2026. The workshop brought together 14 participants, including programme staff from the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and the African Governance Institute (AGI), to review, validate and strengthen the training curriculum and methodology ahead of future institutional capacity-building initiatives.
The workshop forms part of a broader African initiative aimed at strengthening institutional effectiveness and leadership across the continent. The programme draws on more than 70 years of combined experience in African development, governance, peacebuilding, institutional leadership and social justice. It seeks to equip partner organisations with the knowledge, skills and tools required to support sustainable institutional transformation and organisational excellence.
The Validation Workshop served as a preparatory phase designed to strengthen the capacity of partner organisations in Senegal to support the delivery of future institutional training programmes. Participants reviewed the training content and methodologies while building their ability to master the institutional training modules, support lead facilitators during delivery, co-facilitate selected sessions, guide participants through practical exercises and group work, provide pedagogical and logistical support during future trainings, and serve as internal resource persons for knowledge sharing and institutional learning.
The workshop also provided an opportunity to harmonise training approaches, build a shared understanding of the programme modules and strengthen collaboration among implementing teams.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in discussions and validation exercises focused on the programme's strategic objectives and learning outcomes. By the end of the training, participants were better equipped to apply participatory adult-learning methodologies, facilitate group processes and support organisational learning. Particular emphasis was placed on transformational leadership, institutional governance, facilitation techniques, conflict management, monitoring and evaluation of learning outcomes, and the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to support training delivery and knowledge management.
The workshop reviewed and validated a range of technical and methodological modules, including the institutional approach of WANEP and partner institutions, facilitation techniques and adult learning methodologies, transformational leadership and institutional governance, communication and group management, participatory processes and conflict resolution, learning assessment and monitoring techniques, digital tools and artificial intelligence applications, logistical coordination and operational support, documentation and knowledge management, and the practical preparation and delivery of institutional training sessions.
The Validation Workshop adopted a participatory methodology that combined interactive presentations, facilitation simulations, practical exercises, role plays, case studies, group discussions and coaching sessions. Participants also explored digital tools and artificial intelligence applications that can enhance training effectiveness and institutional learning. The practical format enabled participants to test facilitation techniques, receive constructive feedback and strengthen their confidence in supporting future training programmes.
The completion of the Validation Workshop marks an important step in preparing a cadre of skilled trainers and facilitators who will contribute to institutional capacity-building programmes in Senegal and beyond. By strengthening internal expertise, enhancing coordination and promoting a shared vision for organisational transformation, the initiative lays a foundation for more effective institutions capable of delivering sustainable impact across communities.
The workshop reaffirmed the commitment of WANEP, the African Governance Institute and their partners to investing in human capital, institutional excellence and innovative approaches that strengthen governance, leadership and peacebuilding across Africa.
