Inter-party dialogue strengthens democracy, promotes peace, and fosters inclusive governance in Africa. Beyond elections, it helps political parties engage constructively, build consensus, and reduce conflict. Despite its importance, dialogue is often ad hoc and underutilized. AIPDN supports structured, inclusive, and sustainable dialogue through research, policy guidance, facilitation, and capacity-building, helping political parties contribute to stronger institutions, national cohesion, and resilient societies across the continent.

Rethinking Inter-Party Dialogue and Consensus-Building in West Africa
Convened by AIPDN and the ECOWAS Commission, the roundtable brought together approximately forty political leaders, electoral management bodies, civil society organisations, and regional bodies to examine the state and future of inter-party dialogue in West Africa. The closed session produced practical recommendations grounded in existing ECOWAS norms, including measures to address political exclusion and lawfare.
